FAQ
Questions we get asked.
If yours is not here, call or text 631-478-2042 and ask. Andy would rather answer it than have you guess.
How do I know if my floors need refinishing or repair?
Dull, scratched floors that are losing their protective finish are usually a refinishing job. Deep gouges, buckling, gaps, or water damage point toward repair.
Andy inspects the floor and tells you which one it is. Sometimes the answer is less work than you expected.
How long does hardwood floor installation take?
Most installations run two to five days, depending on the size of the space and the type of hardwood. Pre-finished floors go down faster than site-finished ones.
Will I need to move out during the process?
Usually not. We work in sections to keep the disruption down.
After refinishing or staining, most floors take foot traffic within about eight hours, and furniture can come back after about forty-eight. You get the dates for your job before work begins.
Can you match my existing hardwood flooring?
Yes. Whether it is a repair or an addition to an existing floor, we match the species, stain, and grain so the new work blends into the old.
Customers describe finished repairs they cannot find afterward, and new red oak laid into rooms with slightly different heights with no evidence of the difference.
Do you offer eco-friendly finishes?
Yes. We use low-VOC stains and finishes, which are better for indoor air quality and keep the odor down while the floor cures. Durability holds up.
What is the difference between pre-finished and site-finished hardwood?
Pre-finished hardwood is coated at the factory. It installs faster and creates less dust.
Site-finished hardwood is sanded and stained in your home, which allows more customization and gives a seamless surface across the whole floor.
How do I care for my floors after installation or refinishing?
Sweep or vacuum regularly with a soft-bristle attachment, and use a microfiber mop with a hardwood-safe cleaner. Keep water mopping and harsh chemicals away from it.
Can you fix floors damaged by pets or water?
Yes. Stains, scratches, and swelling from pets and moisture are routine repairs here. The sooner it is looked at, the better the outcome.
Do hardwood floors add value to my home?
Buyers respond to hardwood, and a well-maintained or recently refinished floor is one of the things they notice first when they walk in.
How much does it cost?
Cost depends on square footage, the flooring type, and the scope of the work. The visit and the written estimate are free, and there is no pressure attached to either.
Do you work on commercial buildings and schools?
Yes. Offices, retail, lobbies, and school buildings are a regular part of the work. Andy inspects the site himself, recommends materials suited to the traffic, and schedules the job around the way your building runs.
There is more on the commercial flooring page.
What areas do you serve?
Nassau and Suffolk County, from Port Washington and Garden City out through Bay Shore, Sayville, and Bayport.
Still wondering about your floor?
Andy comes out, looks at it, and gives you a written price.
