Custom black and white checkerboard hardwood floor in a paneled hallway

Hardwood floors · Nassau & Suffolk County

Forty-five years of Long Island floors.

Installation, refinishing, and repair for homes and businesses. Andy comes out, looks at the floor, and tells you what it needs.

The Floorman

The floor gets looked at by the man whose name is on the truck.

Andy Harman has spent forty-five years laying, sanding, and finishing hardwood on Long Island. He looks at the floor himself, talks it through with you, and gives you a price before any work starts.

Customers who collected three quotes tell the same story about him: he was the one who sat down and explained what the floor actually needed, and why. Where a repair was necessary he said so and showed why. Where something needed a second look afterward, he came back and took care of it.

His crew has been with him long enough that customers thank them by name. Repairs get matched board by board until you can't find them.

What we do

Most floors need one of three things.

Replacing, reviving, or patching — which one is usually clear once someone who knows wood is standing on it. That's what the visit is for.

Installation

New hardwood in a range of species and widths, red oak most often. Where a floor runs into an addition sitting at a slightly different height, the two get blended — one customer's several extensions came out with no sign of the difference.

Installation

Refinishing

Sanding and finishing that takes decades of wear off the surface and brings the grain back up. Worn-out floors come back looking better than new.

Refinishing

Repair

Damaged boards replaced and matched to what's already down. Once the finish goes on, you can't tell which areas were repaired.

Repair

Custom colors and patterns

Stains mixed to match something you bring in, contrasting borders, inlays, and large custom layouts like the checkerboard at the top of this page.

What customers say

5.0 from 31 Google reviews

“Out of all the quotes we got he was the only one to sit down with us and explain everything.”
Chris D'Italia · Google review

“Andy came in and transformed old worn-out floors into something better than new. From dust-free sanding to low-fume coating, the wood looks like artwork.”

Albert Smith

“The third coat is definitely a great option when you have a dog. We recommended him to two other people and they were happy too. Years later the floors still look amazing.”

Jack Stern

“Fourth room in my house in three years. My extensions have small height differences and his crew blended the red oak with no evidence of them. Never asks for upcharges.”

John Scannello

“Excellent results. Clean, no sawdust. Fair pricing and a fast response to start the job. I love my floors.”

Domenica Zator

“Michael's workmanship was high quality and detail-oriented. Andy was flexible with timing and worked closely with us on the schedule. The flooring came out perfect.”

Farhad Haeri

“They went above and beyond disassembling my table to move it out of the kitchen, and fixed all the loose screws when they put it back together.”

Commercial

Bigger buildings, same hands.

For larger commercial and institutional buildings, including schools, Andy inspects the site himself and recommends materials suited to how the space is used and the traffic it carries.

He and his crews then work around your schedule, so classes stay on the calendar and the business keeps running while the floor gets done.
